I finally joined the millons of iphone lovers....

miles run: 7 mile recover................................asphalt............................cold/dark

something to think about: " Do or not do, there is no try" -Yoda

Calling all runners and running fans:

Today I went on an easy 7 mile run to recover from yesterdays 20 mile aggressive run. What made it extra challenging was the fact that I had work right after....Let me just tell you that I didn't go to sleep until 330am. Luckily yesterday's run will have been the last tough run before the Marathon in three weeks.

By the way I just got my 3G 16GB iphone yesterday and I couldn't be more stoked....Now I can check my email on the go...and I will be able to find myself when I get lost...:).....living the lifestyle on the run, R U?

Zero Sleep tonight..Bon qui qui

miles run: Sunday morning....9 mile run......dirt.................sunny

fuel for thought: "It hurts up to a point and then it doesn't get any worse." -Ann Trason

Calling all runners and running fans:

Its 3:30 am on Monday morning and I have had exactly 0 hours of sleep tonight. I ended up switching shifts with another manager this weekend to all closing, except for Monday, which ended up messing with my sleep. For me, sleep needs to be worthwhile. My sleep length needs to be at least 6 hours, no less. Given that i got out from work at 12am and come back to open at 6am, I would only end up getting 3 hours of sleep, after drive time, and pre and post prep time. I can't dare tease my body like that. Instead, I have just spent the last few hours updating the Salmiler page, and looking over future products for the apparel line. You can expect me to come home Monday afternoon and crash until the next day. Only to realize that I have a 20 mile run ahead that very morning....the sacrifice one is willing to do to follow the dream...thank god I only have myself to think about for now :)
On this sleepless night, I also had a bit of time to watch this crazy video that makes me laugh hysterically, every time I watch it. It was first introduced to me by my brother, Elio, on his myspace site. Its the famous, Anjelah Johnson as, Bon qui qui at King Burger... "where you can have it your way, but don't get crazy!!! LMAO...Check it out and enjoy ;) living our lifestyle on the run, R U?

Outstanding Performance Ryan and Kara

miles run: 12 mile run....................dirt/asphalt....................................sunny/perfect

fuel for thought: "If a man coaches himself, then he has only himself to blame when he is beaten." - Sir Roger Bannister

Calling all runners and running fans:

Today I went out for a 12 mile run. The weather was perfect( sunny yet just a bit windy) and I felt physically and mentally great. What more can you ask for, right? With exactly one month to go ( or exactly four weeks and 1 day) until the LA Marathon, I've hit the peak and now I start cutting back my mileage this week coming up. This next Tuesday, however, I have my last 20 miler before the race. At this point the bulk of my training is done and I just need to make sure that I am gearing up mentally for the race.....I can already feel the birth of baby butterflies in my stomach....:)

A big round of applause for Kara Goucher and Ryan Hall for their outstanding performance at this year's 2009 Boston Marathon, held Monday May 20. They both obtained the 3rd place finish in their respective divisions. Great way to REPRESENT Ryan and Kara.....there will be plenty of races ahead to win that First place :) The following is a video of the 2009 Boston Marathon Men's and Women's race finish....Check it out and get inspired!!!...living our lifestyle on the run, R U?

Soon it will all disappear forever

miles run: day off from running today....

<31> more days until LA....woot woot!!!

fuel for thought: "The pride you gain is worth the pain. " - Dennis Ogilvie

Calling all runners and running fans:

It doesn't get more chill then today. This day was truly relaxing for a change. I didn't run today. Instead, the only productive thing that I did was take my car in for a scheduled service....feels great not to have to spend cash for car service...BMW takes care of it all for me :). Well, not for long though...only until the50k mile mark. Soon, before the 40k mark, I will have to decide if I want to extend warranty past the 50k mile mark or bite the bullet and spend as I go...

Moving right along, the content on this blog will soon be gone like the wind, forever. The good news is that in 2 weeks Salmiler will have a permanent home in the form of a professional website, as mentioned before.

Also, I great shout out to Steve Martin , who I recently found on facebook after 7 years. Steve was this awesome, human being runner from UCSD ( 2002 alumni) that showed myself and the other freshmen runners the way while running. I will always be grateful to Steve and the rest of the guys on that TEAM for making my experience at UCSD a memorable one. Its also great to hear that many of the guys are still running...stoked!!!

Surfing the net I found this great video that reminds me of the friendly tag-you-are- it dirty games that occur while running :) Check it out and enjoy...living our lifestyle on the run, R U?

Calling all runners and running fans:

Boy oh boy, has it been hot or what this weekend!! Today I went out for a run at 11am and realized that I should have gone earlier. Cause it was sure hot!! I guess it okay given that the marathon will be in late May, when I am sure will be even hotter and this run only helps me get used to the heat, right?

With 35 days left until the Marathon, here is a 6 minute video tour of the 2009 LA Marathon to be held Monday, May 25, 2009 at 7:20am. I have been watching it in detail to have a better race strategy and run smarter on that given day. Check it out and enjoy......living our lifestyle on the run, R U ?

School Running Club....

miles run: 8 miles run yesterday.......................dirt/asphalt......................sunny/windy

fuel for thought: " A run begins the moment that you forget you are running." -Adidas (from Abby's wall)

Calling all runners and running fans:
Today I start my day at 4am. I work the early shift which starts at 630. Why am up so early you may ask? Well, I just like to get up extra early to catch up on certain things like this blog I am updating on. After work I will run a 9 miler. Yesterday I had the opportunity to substitute teach for a good running friend of mine, Abby. I met Abby about two years ago at a school here in Riverside. Abby is from Michigan, where I believe she was born, grew up and went to college. Now she teaches English and runs regularly here in California. What's great about her is that she is in charge of the running club at her school, which is a middle school around here. How cool is that...these kids are getting an early start on their running. I remember not being able to start running regularly until high school, how sad!!! Back in the days they never had programs like this earlier on in a child's curriculum. I am sure some of these kids will have an advantage when going on to high school and college and decide to run competitively....lucky!!! Its great to see people like Abby doing their part in sharing their passion for this running lifestyle. The club meets early in the morning before school and runs a few miles regularly. They also compete at local running events on weekends. Oh and almost forgot to mention, last November, Abby ran here first marathon in North Carolina with here sister...woot woot!! :) She says she had a great experience and felt better than she thought she would. :) Keep up the good running Abby and keep sharing running lifestyle/spirit...living our lifestyle on the run, R U ?

Lazy day....New site soon!!!

miles run: day off from running...recuperating from my 21 miler yesterday ;)

fuel for thought: "Cross Country - Finally a practical use for golf courses." -Anonymous

Calling all runners and running fans:

Today I decided to sleep in and do nothing.....Nothing as far as running, and exercising that is. Yesterday I ran a 21 mile run before I went in for work so today's rest day was well deserved. With only 39 days left until the LA marathon, my mileage is dwindling down from the peak of 23 miles in one day two weeks ago. After I managed to get out of the house, I went and got my car cleaned and headed out for lunch with a friend. We ended up at Panda Express, where I had the orange chix over white rice. Not the healthiest food, but you gotta give me credit for the steam rice alternative, right? :)
I am happy to report that I will soon have a new home in the form of a new website to showcase the salmiler lifestyle and apparel co. The new site will be more professionally done and will represent salmiler to its fullest. I just hope you all are as excited as we are here at salmiler. The new site should be up soon....living our lifestyle on the run, R U ?

Calling all runners and running fans:

Its 4:47 am on a Friday morning and here goes the start of my day. Today I open the early morning ship which usually starts at 6:30pm. As mentioned earlier that I would, I ended up taking my sister out for a run on Wed. We ran a 6 mile where she proved she can run. At the end of the run I had her sprint as hard as she could to test her strength and let me tell you, she blew me way. That girl can run. I can't wait to see what she accomplishes when she goes to high school :) Yesterday I had a scheduled tempo run but instead ended up running a medium long run. Today after work, I shall be running a tempo run to make up for yesterday. With only 50 days left until the LA marathon, my hard work outs are now limited....

As for the Salmiler lifestyle and apparel company, I now have a new promotional button design ( See photos). I had my designer work up a one that I think works well. Its simple, and to the point of promoting the lifestyle and the website. I had my sister, Liz, make a few hundred buttons this week. Due to spring break it was prefect timing. Its nice having younger siblings that in turn have other friends that always find button making a fun activity :).....living our lifestyle on the run, R U?

Boy have we been spoiled or what with this crazy nice weather here in Cali!!! Its been the 4th straight day with perfect weather...not too hot, too cold, just perfect :). Today I went out for a 10 mile run...nice and easy. Tomorrow my sister, Liz, should be coming with me on a slower run. She is on spring break and we gotta start her training season for high school cross country...I think she is going to ROCK La Sierra's Cross Country Team next year....Can she make it to the State Championships? :) We'll have to see....living our lifestyle on the run, R U?

Calling runners and running fans:

I worked this morning at the restaurant and decided to take the day off from running. Instead, however, somebody else ran and won a wonderful race. It was my younger sister, Elizabeth, that has taken on the running lifestyle and has proven to be successful thus far. A few weeks ago she ran a track meet and won the events that she was in. Today, however, she ran in the Middle School Distance Mile and won the girls race with a time of 5:45. I am very proud of her and I can't wait to see what will come when she goes on and runs cross country and track in high school :)....living our lifestyle on the run, R U?

Relaxed day

miles run: 8 mile run...................dirt/asphalt.........................sunny

fuel for thought: "Do a little more each day than you think you possibly can." -Lowell Thomas

Calling all runners and running fans:

After yesterday's three hour run it was time to run a relaxed, easy run. Today I ran an 8 mile run along the trails of Victoria. The weather was perfect and so was my attitude. Even though running is my passion, there is times when you are just not feeling it. Today, however, I knew I had conquered my longest run during this training yet, this easy 8 mile would be nothing in comparison. After my run I at a huge bowl of strawberries and cereal with soy milk. Berry fruit is great after hard workouts because they have ant oxidants which help replenish muscles. After my run, I met up with my friend Chris at Starbucks for a catch up. Chris is a good friend of mine that attends UCR where he is getting his PhD in Psychology. After hanging out with Chris, I was off to the dentist for cavity fillings. I ended up getting 3 cavities filled in a fairly quick and painless session. I shall be returning soon to get 4 more. It had been three years since my last visit. I am just glad I didn't have any major issues :)

On a side note, recently I got myself a new pair of shoes. I figure that I have about 7 weeks to go before the LA marathon and that should be sufficient time to break in the pair before the bid day. I went for a pair of mainly white, and blue, 401 New Balance. After having worn them a few times now, I can say that they are very comfortable and lightweight. The only downside is the white color; which ,as you can see is no longer truly white :( ....living our lifestyle on the run, R U ?

<53> more days until the LA marathon...woot woot :)

calling all runners and running fans:

Its been a few days since an update so here it goes. Today I ran a 22 mile run. It is probably the most I will have run before the LA marathon on May 25th.....I have two more weeks of high mileage before I start cutting back. On a side note, I think I now know what an overdose feels like, as I believe I might have overdosed on Vitamin C. I ate 6 huge oranges during my run this morning and started feeling weird. I started to feel hot and cold at the same time minutes before my run was over.....Any medical experts out there know what was happening to me? Its been a few hours now and I think the effects are gone. Currently feeling accomplished and relaxed as I post this blog. Its such a great feeling to finish the longest run you will do prior to a marathon...Its like you have conquered the highest peak...all other peaks will be similar, but not higher :).

Today on Yahoo news, I read a news story about a stupid mistake made by the admissions staff at UC San Diego, in La Jolla, Ca. ( UCSD), the school I attended and graduated from in 2005. First of all, I want to say that I am embarrassed and angry for victims that were taken on this emotional roller coaster ride. As it turns out, the school had sent out its acceptance letters to about 35% of all applicants back a few weeks ago, along with the rejection letter to the remaining 65%, pretty standard right? Well, the problem came just a few hours ago when the admissions office sent out an acceptance email to all 100% of the students welcoming them to the school and congratulating them on their acceptance. A half an hour later, another email was sent to those 65% ( rejected ) apologizing and letting them know that it had all been a mistake. Could it have been an intentional April fools joke or a mere coincidence? That's for you all to judge. I think, however, that UCSD's highest officials have some explaining to do. And to think that I regarded this "great school" as having some of the most professional staff members I had ever enountered....PATHETIC............living our lifestyle on the run, R U ?
